Potassium sorbate is a chemical additive. It's widely used as a preservative in foods, drinks, and personal care products. 

It is an odorless and tasteless salt synthetically produced from sorbic acid and potassium hydroxide.

Only the inorganic selenium salts sodium selenite  were available at a cost permitting their use in animal feed. Because selenium is an essential element, sodium selenite is an ingredient in some food supplements.
